Here is a list of 10 of the largest known ransomware payments to date:


Dark Angels Ransomware Group

A Fortune 50 company paid a record-breaking $75 million to the Dark Angels ransomware group in early 2024. This is the highest known ransom payment ever reported​ (SecurityWeek)​​ (Techopedia)​.


CNA Financial - Largest Ransomware Payments

In 2021, CNA Financial, an insurance giant, paid $40 million to the hackers responsible for a ransomware attack​ (Heimdal Security)​.


Colonial Pipeline

This major US fuel pipeline operator paid $4.4 million to the DarkSide ransomware group after an attack that disrupted fuel supplies across the country in 2021​ (Heimdal Security)​.


Brenntag

The North American division of this chemical distributor paid $4.4 million to DarkSide after a ransomware attack in 2021​ (Heimdal Security)​.


CWT Global - Largest Ransomware Payments

The US travel services company paid $4.5 million to the Ragnar Locker ransomware group in 2020​ (Heimdal Security)​.


JBS USA

The world's largest meat processing company paid $11 million to the REvil (Sodinokibi) ransomware group in 2021 to regain control of their systems​ (SC Media)​.


Kaseya

The IT management company paid $70 million in ransom demands following an attack that affected multiple clients. However, the actual payment amount settled is unclear, with some reports suggesting a negotiated amount lower than initially demanded​ (SC Media)​.


Acer - Largest Ransomware Payments

In 2021, the computer manufacturer Acer faced a ransom demand of $50 million by the REvil ransomware group. It's not confirmed if the payment was made, but the demand was one of the highest ever reported​ (SC Media)​.


Travelex

This London-based foreign currency exchange company paid $2.3 million to the Sodinokibi ransomware group after an attack on New Year’s Eve 2019​ (Heimdal Security)​.


Garmin

The GPS and wearable tech company reportedly paid a $10 million ransom to the Evil Corp hacker group in 2020​ (SC Media)​.
